Spot On: Lonnie Spry
Raised in Capitol Heights, Maryland, Lonnie graduated from Suitland High School in 1988, where he excelled in English classes. He was intrigued and inspired by the writings of Maya Angelou, Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Zora Neale Hurston along with a number of other great African-American writers and poets.
After graduation, Lonnie joined the United States Army and served as a Telecommunications Specialist. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Army Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in January 1992.
Through success in writing poems for friends and family, he was encouraged to write and develop his talents. With so many humorous and amusing real-life experiences, his friends continued to persuade him to write a book, so he took up the challenge.
